In most cases, patients are are acutely ill adults. The most common diagnoses include various forms of acute leukaemia, lymphomas and myeloma.
Most patients receive courses of cytotoxic chemotherapy lasting 1-9 days, in addition to supportive therapies required by the treatment and disease. The average length of stay on the ward is 12 days, but the length of the treatment periods ranges from a few days to 5-6 weeks. The majority of patients receive cytotoxic chemotherapy or treatment for an infection caused by cytopenia after therapy.
On the ward, cytopenic patients are kept in protective isolation. Complicated infections are treated in isolation rooms with a single bed.
The ward has 19 patient beds, the majority of which are single rooms and the rest double rooms. Rooms have been equipped with modern multi-service terminals and a wireless nurse call system. In addition, a follow-up outpatient clinic and the home care clinic for leukaemia patients.
