The Dialysis Teaching Centre provides training to dialysis patients with the objective of teaching patients how to perform home dialysis based on their specific needs, or to perform dialysis independently in an outsourced hemodialysis satellite unit
(B. Braun, Hiomotie 8). The centre's staff are highly experienced in dialysis treatment, making the unit an excellent learning environment for students. Patients’ family members are welcome to visit the centre to learn more about dialysis treatment. Visiting by arrangement.
The Dialysis Teaching Centre operates in two locations, in the Meilahti Triangle Hospital and in the Surgical Hospital.  The Centre’s home care operations, home hemodialysis unit and the peritoneal dialysis unit are located in the Meilahti Triangle Hospital, and the dialysis training unit in the Surgical Hospital.
The home hemodialysis unit teaches patients how to perform hemodialysis at home and provides further treatment. The home hemodialysis unit also provides training and emergency on-call services to other central hospital districts. The unit is open from Monday to Friday.
The peritoneal dialysis unit is responsible for organising and planning the care of peritoneal dialysis patients in the HUS district, as well as for practical care provision and follow-up. If patients require examinations or treatment in another hospital or care facilty, the peritoneal dialysis unit will coordinate the dialysis treatment.  The unit's staff train home nurses, family members or health centre staff to perform dialysis when the patient is unable to perform it independently. The unit is open from Monday to Friday.
The dialysis training unit provides treatment to patients with chronic renal failure. Dialysis is performed three times a week, for about 4-5 hours at a time. The dialysis training unit is responsible for teaching patients how to perform hemodialysis independently. After the training period, patients can start visiting a dialysis satellite unit. The training unit has 10 dialysis stations operating in two shifts. Treatment is available on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Telephone number to the dialysis room is 09 471 88655.
