The Stroke Unit serves acutely ill cerebrovascular disorder patients requiring special monitoring and treatment. Seven beds are monitored. Approximately 800 patients are treated in our unit.

Patients are admitted mainly via an emergency clinic. Patients can also be transferred from other wards if their treatment requires monitoring and treatment of patients with cerebrovascular disorders.
The examination, care and rehabilitation of patients is planned and implemented on an individual basis. The operation also includes arranging further treatment and rehabilitation to patients who need it. Providing guidance and counselling to patients and their family members is an important part of treatment.

Work in the unit is multidisciplinary and rehabilitative. In addition to a cerebrovascular disorder specialist, head nurses, nurses and licensed practical nurses, the patients' care team also includes a ward secretary, a physiotherapist, a speech therapist, a social worker, and an occupational therapist and a neuropsychologist, if necessary. The whole hospital staff treats patients with consistent principles.

The monitoring unit also treats patients on ventilators, as cerebrovascular disorders can cause disorders in controlling one's own breathing. A cerebrovascular disorder specialist is in charge of the treatment of patients on the monitoring ward. The unit is staffed at all times.
