Our ward is an acute neurology inpatient ward with 20 beds. Approximately 85% of the patients are admitted as emergencies; the rest come in by agreement, via a waiting list and as hospital transfers.
Disorders of the cerebral circulation form the largest disease group. Other core symptoms and disease groups that our patients are afflicted with include epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, MS, myasthenia gravis, muscle diseases, inflammations of the central nervous system, peripheral nervous system diseases, dementing diseases and memory disorders, headache, dizziness, and tumours.
The treatment of a neurological patient is rehabilitative acute care and requires multidisciplinary co-operation. In addition to physicians and the nursing staff, our team includes two physiotherapists, a speech therapist, a neuropsychologist, an occupational therapist, and a social worker.
