The Endocrinology Outpatient Clinic examines, treats, and monitors patients afflicted with endocrine disorders. Diabetes, thyroid diseases, morbid obesity, osteoporosis, diseases of the calcium metabolism, and endocrine gland tumours form the most important disease groups.
The examination of endocrinological diseases is based on hormone measurements made from blood samples and imaging studies that use ultrasound imaging, CT, MRI, radionuclide imaging, and PET scanning.
Patients who have recently been afflicted with type 1 diabetes, insulin pump patients, and patients who have been referred for consultation due to various other problems, such as leg problems, are treated in the diabetes outpatient clinics. In many cases, treatment is related to treatment counselling provided by the nursing staff, either individually or as group counselling.
