Patients are admitted to the Emergency Department based on a physician’s referral or, in emergencies, without a referral, round the clock. The Emergency Department provides internal medicine, surgical and neurological specialised medical care for patients over 16 years who have been taken acutely and seriously ill and need immediate care. Patients are treated based on their urgency, which is
why waiting times may become long.

Visiting hours: 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Due to the specific nature of the ward  the visits should be short and only the closest family members are encouraged to visit the patient. No night time visits.
Ward 22 has an intermediate care unit with 10 beds. The ward’s specialties are internal medicine and neurology. Patients are usually transferred from the emergency clinic, although sometimes patients are referred by intensive care units, other wards or other hospitals.

In intermediate care, most patients require:

  • mechanical ventilation
  • continuous monitoring of blood circulation and breathing
  • vital sign measurements
  • medications supporting the vital functions
