Neurology Ward 6 and Respiratory Paralysis Unit (RPU)

The ward is located on the 4th floor of the Hyvinkää health center hospital building. The ward contains 24 hospital beds which are divided into16 beds for neurology patients and 8 beds for internal medicine patients.

The ward treats patients requiring treatment for a stroke or a cerebral infarction, multiple sclerosis, or epilepsy, and internal medicine patients, for example. Patients arrive to the ward from emergency services, as hospital transfers from the Helsinki University Hospital’s neurological clinic, Töölö Hospital, or from the neurology outpatient clinic as agreed and from other hospital districts.
The patients at the ward have diverse simultaneous rehabilitation needs which require multi-professional expertise and co-operation between physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and the medical staff.

Respiratory Paralysis Unit

The ward also houses the Respiratory Paralysis Unit, and its operations are under the supervision of Pulmonary Diseases both in the hospital and in home treatment. There are one to three available hospital beds. The Chief Physician of the Pulmonary Diseases department is in charge of the unit’s operation, drug therapy, and overall treatment of patients. The unit employs its own care team, and a nurse coordinator who as an expert nurse, together with the doctors in charge, sees to good-quality treatment. Several diseases can cause respiratory paralysis. Most commonly it is caused by a neurological disease or a serious injury.

Visiting hours at the ward are 1:00pm–7:00pm.
