Hyvinkää Hospital’s emergency care is arranged as a joint emergency service in which both specialised medical care and basic health care emergency clinics are arranged under the administration of one organisation. Annually, the emergency clinic is visited by more than 50,000 patients.

In addition to the specialised medical care emergency clinic, the joint emergency service includes a joint GP emergency clinic at night between 10.00 p.m. and 8.00 a.m. for the municipalities in the hospital area (Hyvinkää, Järvenpää, Mäntsälä, Nurmijärvi and Tuusula). At other times, the GP emergency clinic is arranged in the emergency clinic of each municipality’s own health centre. The GP emergency clinic of Hyvinkää health centre operates round-the-clock at Hyvinkää Hospital. In addition, patients of Hyvinkää health centre can also book appointments with a nurse between 8.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m.

Besides emergency cases, patients with a physician’s referral or those whose condition is assessed to need specialised medical care based on an interview and preliminary examination by a nurse, are directed to a specialised medical care emergency clinic. The specialised medical care emergency clinic is divided into emergency clinics based on medical specialities (internal medicine, neurology, pulmonary diseases), surgery (surgery, pediatric surgery) and a pediatric emergency clinic. The gynaecological diseases and obstetrics emergency clinic is arranged in a separate unit on the hospital’s second floor.

Prehospital Emergency Care

As of 1 January 2012, the responsibility for arranging prehospital emergency care services in accordance with the Health Care Act was transferred from the Hyvinkää hospital area municipalities to the Hospital District. Operations in the Hyvinkää hospital area are arranged partly as independent operations and partly in co-operation with local rescue services. Prehospital emergency care is a fixed part of the division between the emergency clinic and prehospital emergency care in the hospital’s Department of Medicine. Prehospital emergency care services are directed by the physician responsible for prehospital emergency care together with the chief of prehospital emergency care.
