Neurology

The Department of Neurology is responsible for providing neurological emergency services and inpatient care in the HUH district, as well as for providing demanding special-level specialised medicine required in the rest of the HUS district. 
  
The Neurological Emergency Clinic at Meilahti Tower Hospital is the only place in the HUS district capable of carrying out complex treatment and diagnostics, including thrombolytic therapy in a cerebral infarct, 24 hours a day every day of the year. The Neurological Emergency Clinic in Meilahti provides telestroke consultation for several central and regional hospitals on workdays from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm and at weekends from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
 
The Neurology Outpatient Clinics in Meilahti, Jorvi and Peijas are responsible for specialised medical outpatient care in the HUH district and for demanding special-level specialised medicine for outpatients. The Brain Injury Clinic, Outpatient Clinic for Muscular Diseases as well as the Rehabilitation Evaluation Unit operate as specialised outpatient clinics.
 
Pre-operative assessment of deep brain stimulation surgery for patients suffering from Parkinson’s disease and programming the DBS device after the procedure as well as assessments for surgery for epilepsy and post-operative treatment among other things have been concentrated in the Meilahti Tower Hospital in the HUS area. Patients are also referred to these treatments from other hospital districts.
