Frequently asked questions about the coronavirus HUSLAB and HUS Medical Imaging

Customer service in HUSLAB and HUS Medical Imaging are overburdened with enquiries concerning the coronavirus. Please read these frequently asked questions before contacting us. 


General questions


Will I be notified if my appointment is cancelled?
Customers will be notified if examination appointments need to be cancelled due to the coronavirus.

I have an appointment tomorrow, will it be cancelled due to the coronavirus?

Can I come for my examination if I have symptoms of a flu or a cold?
If your illness allows postponing the examination, please do so. Arrange this with your referring unit and inform the examination location as well.

If your illness allows postponing the examination, please do so. Arrange this with your referring unit and inform the examination location as well.  

May an assistant accompany a patient who has the coronavirus? 
Yes, if the assistant is necessary.

Where can I find information about the first symptoms of a coronavirus infection?

Laboratories 


HUSLAB sample collection sites do not perform sampling for the coronavirus and you cannot come in to the laboratories if you suspect you have contracted the coronavirus. If you suspect having contracted the coronavirus, contact the helplines. Their contact information is available on your home municipality’s website.

Does the coronavirus epidemic affect appointments in laboratories?
HUSLAB will close some of the sample collection sites due to the national coronavirus epidemic. Changes to opening hours are also possible. Please check the latest information on HUSLAB's website (www.huslab.fi).

Customers will be notified of any cancelled appointments.

I have been invited for cervical cancer screening, does the coronavirus situation affect my appointment?

HUSLAB will close some of the sample collection sites due to the national coronavirus epidemic. 

Some cervical cancer screening, or PAP smear, appointments have also been cancelled because of this.
You will receive a letter if your appointment has been cancelled. We must send this information in a letter, because we have no other contact information available.

If your screening appointment is very soon, please check the situation of the sample collection site in question. We keep updating the situation on HUSLAB’s website with the list of our sample collection sites.

If the sample collection site is closed, it means that your appointment has been cancelled. You will receive a letter about it to your home address. >> Book a new appointment for the PAP smear 


Medical Imaging


Does the coronavirus affect the opening hours of X-ray units?
Please check the latest information on HUS Medical Imaging’s website (www.hus-kuvantaminen.fi) or on the Service Map. Medical imaging of patients with the coronavirus and patients that are suspected to have the coronavirus, is centralized to certain locations.  

I have an appointment for medical imaging, is it safe to come?
Currently, the aim is to limit all traffic and contact between people. If your illness allows postponing the examination, please do so. Arrange this with your referring unit and inform the examination location as well.

Is it safe to come to have an X-ray or other imaging taken when I belong to a risk group?
If your illness allows postponing the examination, please do so. Arrange this with your referring unit and inform the examination location as well.

Should I reschedule my imaging appointment because of the coronavirus?
Please contact the unit you have an appointment at. If your imaging is postponed, please inform the examination location as well.

Are there many people in the X-ray units?
The number of people in the waiting rooms varies. The aim is to assign people with symptoms of a respiratory infection to a separate space.

Can I have an MRI taken if I have symptoms of a flu?
You cannot come for imaging if you have symptoms of a respiratory infection. If your illness allows postponing the examination, please do so. Arrange this with your referring unit and inform the examination location as well. Generally, patients with fever cannot have an MRI taken.

I have been referred for imaging, does the coronavirus affect this?
If you have symptoms of a respiratory infection or other symptoms that may relate to the coronavirus, and if your illness allows postponing the imaging, please postpone it. Arrange this with your referring unit and inform the examination location as well. If you have no symptoms of a respiratory infection, the images can be taken. Check the opening hours of your examination location on HUS Medical Imaging’s website via the list of units or on the Service Map.

Have your imaging services (e.g. MRI) been limited due to the coronavirus?
Yes, it is possible that we need to limit and centralize our services according to the number of staff available.
