HUCH Heart and Lung Center is the national centre for heart transplants and exclusively examines and treats severe congenital heart diseases in adults and other rare cardiac conditions in Finland.

Cardiac surgery is a specialIty field in medicine involved in the examination and treatment of heart diseases. In HUS, the cardiothoracic diagnostic testing and operations on adult patients are conducted at the HUCH Heart and Lung Center of Helsinki University Central Hospital at Meilahti Tower Hospital.

Helsinki University Central Hospital performs more than 1,100 cardiac surgery procedures such as coronary bypass and heart valve operations, heart and lung transplants, and major vascular surgery of the aorta, and combinations of all these. In addition, some 400-500 minor procedures associated with heart diseases are performed every year.
