Cardiology

Cardiology is a speciality offering specialist cardiological medical care to the municipalities in the HUCH area and specialist care to residents in the HUS area. Cardiology offers services to the hospital districts of Kymenlaakso and South Karelia according to the currently valid service contract, and cardiological emergency services also to the hospital districts of Kanta-Häme and Päijät-Häme.     
 
HUCH Heart and Lung Center is the national centre for heart transplants and exclusively examines and treats severe congenital heart diseases in adults and other rare cardiac conditions in Finland. The speciality admits patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year. In addition to clinical tasks, the speciality extensively engages in scientific research and participates in undergraduate and postgraduate education. The speciality employs 40 physicians and 170 other care personnel, who are guided in their daily tasks by jointly agreed strategic goals.
