Heart and Lung Center

​Helsinki University Hospital Heart and Lung Center is the first competence center of Helsinki University Hospital and the HUS area. The center offers specialist medical care in the fields of cardiology, cardiac surgery, pulmonary diseases and general thoracic and esophageal surgery. The Heart and Lung Center is the largest center in Finland and is a major center on the European scale. The center plays a pioneering role in robot-assisted and video-assisted surgery.

The emergency services of various medical specialties play a key role in the HUS area. The Heart and Lung Center was the first in Finland to have a 24-hour emergency clinic for heart diseases. The Heart and Lung Center has Finland's only specialist level emergency clinic for diseases in thoracic cavities.

Helsinki University Hospital Heart and Lung Center performs heart and lung transplants nationally. Some rare and demanding congenital diseases of the thoracic cavity and the heart and their follow-up treatment are also centralized at Helsinki University Hospital.
